Chiller Systems

Chiller Working Principle

Basically, the chiller system realizes cooling with the cycle provided by the special cooling liquid in the compressor, condenser, break valve and evaporator equipment.

The hot gas coming to the compressor is compressed into a very hot liquid. It is cooled by the condenser and converted into hot liquid, then the temperature of the liquid passed through the break valve decreases due to the pressure of the liquid and becomes cold gas, it heats up by cooling the cooling water in the evaporator with the help of the heat exchanger and is sent to the condenser and compressed again and the cycle is completed.

Chiller Working Principle: 2
Cooling water is cooled by the evaporator, cooled water is transferred to the areas to be cooled by AHU, Funcol etc. units, cooling is provided and it completes its cycle by returning back to the evaporator system.

The excess heat on the fluid coming out of the condenser and the copressor is discharged into the air or with water. If the heat is discharged with air, it is called air source chiller and if it is discharged into water, it is called water source chiller.

Chiller system is basically divided into two as water cooled (open type tower – closed type tower) and air cooled chiller.

In addition, heat pump chiller, 4-pipe chiller, free cooling chiller systems are also used.

Air Cooled Chiller

It works by disposing the energy gained by the refrigerant gas in the chiller through the evaporator and compressor on air-cooled coils.

The very hot fluid compressed in the compressor is sent to the condenser. With the help of fans, heat transfer is realized by providing air flow on the battery surface. Cooling is completed by transferring the heat on the gas to the air.

Water Cooled Chiller

Water cooled chiller cooling systems cool the very hot fluid in the condenser circuit with water with the help of a heat exchanger, unlike the air cooled chiller operating logic. Water sources for the supply of cooling water can be river, soil, sea, cooling tower or standard water line.

It should be noted that water cooled chiller systems provide 65% smaller volume compared to the chiller device of similar capacity as it minimizes the device volume. At the same time, due to the increase in compressor operating performance, it consumes less electricity and provides high performance, of course, water consumption occurs.

Chiller cooling groups are used in industrial production facilities, food and pharmaceutical industry, plastic production facilities, cosmetic manufacturing facilities, cold storage, hotels and hospitals. However, the chiller project suitable for each area of use should be specially prepared.
